About the Practice
Headwaters Therapy, PLLC is a mental health therapy practice founded and operated by Simon Davis-Millis, LICSW. Whether you're seeking help for yourself or an important relationship, you are welcome here. I offer in-person therapy in Rockland, MA, and telehealth therapy in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, and Vermont.
My mission is simple: provide top-quality therapy without compromising accessibility and sustainability.
What this means for you:
Stable Care: If you've experienced the cycle of new providers at larger agencies, please know that this won't be the case here--I love this work, and I don't plan on going anywhere.
In-Network Affordability: I will continuously endeavor to keep this practice in-network with all Massachusetts commercial insurances.
Transparency and Responsiveness: no endless phone trees, unreachable departments, or opaque policies here. If you have questions about your care (financial, insurance-related, clinical, etc.), I'll do my best to answer.
Treatment Approach
When asked what kind of therapist I am, I usually answer with some variation of “I’m a generalist because I don’t think anyone has gotten everything right yet.” I believe that good therapy should look different for everyone; it should be customized to your unique strengths and concerns. I also care deeply about the quality of my work–on a purely practical level, I believe that a well-informed generalist approach maximizes the chances of my having the right tools for the job.
My practice draws upon several modalities. With individual clients, I often employ an ACT-informed approach. ACT emphasizes identifying and enacting our values, changing relationships with our thoughts and feelings (rather than trying to eliminate the unpleasant ones), and incorporates mindfulness practices to improve our focus upon whatever we deem important. I have found this approach particularly well-suited to people struggling with issues related to trauma, anger, neurodivergence, OCD, anxiety, depression, phobias, overthinking, self-esteem, and avoidance in any form. I will also integrate interventions from CBT and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) when they are well-suited to the situation. My understanding of therapy is also deeply rooted in psychodynamic and relational perspectives.
My work with couples and family draws primarily from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I help all parties involved connect with each other by facilitating safe sharing of their experiences of their relationship and communicate those experiences with each other. Experiencing secure, attuned, and responsive communication with each other builds trust, fosters ongoing communication improvements, and builds the foundations of stronger, closer relationships.
About Simon
I strive to be an attuned, caring, and skillful clinician. If the preceding paragraphs didn’t already make it clear, I enjoy the academic side of therapy nearly as much as doing it. I find the similarities, divergences, and intersections of different schools of thought fascinating, and dedicate a meaningful portion of my free time to ongoing learning.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, where I double majored in religion and philosophy, and a Master of Social Work from Simmons University in Boston, MA. Following graduation, I worked in mobile crisis and as a school social worker before becoming an outpatient therapist in 2020. In addition to working with my clients, I have provided clinical supervision since 2022, and have managed teams of mental health professionals at both national and locally-owned companies.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy fly fishing, rec league soccer, and catering to the whims of my family’s three cats.
About the Name
“Headwaters” refers to the area in which various water sources, small and often nameless, converge into the beginning of a river. They are places of change from which new life flows.
